A NOTE FROM BOB
Slower earnings growth is a big issue for the markets, and many are holding up dividend payers as a strong alternative to owning the broader market. The dividend ETF favorite of many traders is the S&P 500 Dividend Aristocrats (NOBL), which only selects components that have increased their dividends for at least 25 consecutive years. This usually beats an ETF that merely buys the highest paying dividend companies, such as Vanguard High Dividend Yield ETF (VYM). Bond ETFs finally come into their own. They were always the little sibling of equity ETFs. Not in 2019—it was the biggest annual leap for bond ETFs since 2014, boosting assets to more than $800 billion according to data compiled by Bloomberg Intelligence. Pot ETFs: the faithful stay in. It was a disastrous year for pot ETFs, yet Bloomberg notes that all five of 2019's new pot ETFs saw positive flows for the year. Really.
