Hi everyone!
While much attention has been focused on the impeachment trial this week, CNBC has been busy catching up with newsmakers at the World Economic Forum. ICYMI, CNBC's Joe Kernen interviewed President Trump during his visit to Davos, Switzerland. You can find the full interview below, which covers a range of issues including trade, impeachment, the state of the economy, and even his thoughts on Elon Musk. We also sat down with Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, who says the White House has started work on a second round of tax cuts despite the fact that the budget deficit continues to grow. Jeff Cox has a recap of that interview.
The four senators running for president face a time management challenge as the impeachment trial kicks into high gear. "I can do two things at once," Sen. Amy Klobuchar told reporters, adding that she's a mom and "will find one way or another to run for president." Meantime, the latest 2020 Democratic presidential primary polls show Sen. Bernie Sanders cutting into Joe Biden's lead ahead of the Iowa caucuses. Mike Bloomberg is tied with Pete Buttigieg in a national average after spending more than $200 million on campaign ads. Jacob Pramuk has a breakdown of latest national and state-level polls.
For those of you short on time, we're trying something new to keep you up to date on the impeachment trial. Each morning, we'll be posting a video recap of all the key highlights from the Senate floor (and the hallways, of course!) with reporting from Ylan Mui. Check out our most recent update below.
See you next week!
