EDITOR'S NOTE
Coronavirus affected financial markets on Friday, pushing stocks, bond yields and oil prices lower.
U.S. health officials are monitoring 63 potential cases in 22 states and have confirmed a second case - a Chicago woman who returned from Wuhan, China, with the infection. The disease has killed at least 26 people in China and infected more than 900 worldwide.
Fears of economic and financial disruptions are rising - at least as measured by the Cboe Volatility Index, also known as the fear gauge. It climbed above 15 for the first time since Dec. 10. Stocks posted their first losing week of the year. The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury fell to the lowest level since Nov. 1.
Raymond James analyst John Freeman wrote in a note to clients that oil will likely rebound quickly once it becomes clear the outbreak is contained.
