EDITOR'S NOTE
Hello readers,
Between the heat he has taken for withdrawing troops from Syria and the intensifying impeachment probe, it's been a rough few weeks for President Trump. On Friday, though, a bit of encouraging news came out of the administration: there's more apparent progress on trade talks with China.
A Trump administration statement said that both sides "are close to finalizing some sections of the agreement" following a phone call between U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and China's top trade negotiator, Vice Premier Liu He. The development gave a boost to U.S. stock markets and offered investors a glimmer of hope that the world's two largest economies could settle at least some of their differences.
Yet there are still plenty of troubles for Trump and the White House, even if it looks like a trade deal with China could be in the works.
Lawyers for former national security advisor John Bolton have been in touch with House officials about potential testimony in the impeachment probe. Look out for more developments on this front, because it could mean an even tougher time for Trump. After all, Bolton, who just hired some top literary agents, probably has a lot of juicy – and potentially damaging – stories to tell.
