A NOTE FROM BOB
Inflation is the big story of the week. Join us on Monday on ETF Edge when our guests will be Anna Paglia, Global head of ETFs and Index Strategy for Invesco, Dave Nadig, CIO and Director of Research of ETF Trends, and Jim Davolos, Portfolio Manager at Horizon Kinetics who manages the Inflation Beneficiaries ETF (INFL). Stocks do well during periods of moderate inflation, but how about when inflation picks up suddenly? Find out from our experts! Plus the latest ETF news, and the SEC's rejection of a bitcoin ETF. ETFEdge.cnbc.com.
The SEC has rejected the bitcoin ETF, as expected. Once again, they say it is about having exchanges "designed to prevent fraudulent and manipulative acts and practices and to protect investors and the public interest." bit.ly/3FgGmrL
Bitwise Investments withdrew its application to list a bitcoin futures ETF. Invesco also withdrew their application a couple weeks before. They may not be the last ones. There is a first-mover advantage, and there is increasing concern that the futures ETF will not track underlying bitcoin due to high costs and rollover.
There's a short Cathie Wood ETF that has started, but it's off to a slow start. The Tuttle Capital Short Innovation ETF (SARK), tracks the inverse of Cathie Wood's flagship Ark (ARKK) ETF. So if ARKK is down 1% on a day, SARK is up 1%. This is a bet against the whole EV, disruptive tech, and fintech business. But the fund is already down 5% this year, with the S&P up 25%.
ESG funds keep coming. The iShares ESG Advanced Investment Grade Corporate Bond ETF (ELQD) launched this week. It mimics the iShares iBoxx Investment Grade Corporate Bond ETF (LQD). Is there really demand for all these funds?
