Omicron fears relatively muted for Berkshire's stock ... so far

It's just one day, and a shortened one at that. But so far, the Omicron sell-off isn't hitting Berkshire Hathaway's stock prices as much as the major stock indexes.

But so far, the Omicron sell-off isn't hitting Berkshire Hathaway's stock prices as much as the major stock indexes.   The identification in South Africa of a new COVID variant, designated Omicron by the World Health Organization, sent equities sharply lower today. (The NYSE finished trading at 1PM due to the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.)   The W.H.O is calling it a "variant of concern" because it has an unusually large number of mutations, potentially making it more dangerous.   But it says a lot more study is needed. And it criticized countries, including the United States, that immediately imposed travel restrictions on travel from southern Africa.  Major vaccine makers say they can move quickly if needed, and are already testing the new variant.   Even so, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 905 points. Its 2.5% drop is the biggest of the year so far.   The NASDAQ was down 2.2% and the benchmark S&P 500 lost 2.3%.   Berkshire's Class A shares, however, fell 1.3% in the regular session. You only have to go back to late September to find a bigger drop.   And the more widely-held Class B shares declined by 1.5%, also the largest percentage fall since September 30. Yahoo Finance: Binance CEO: We don't need to convince Warren Buffett to invest in crypto Bloomberg Equality: Warren Buffett Adds Daughter to Board, Deepening Berkshire Family Ties BERKSHIRE STOCK WATCH         BERKSHIRE'S TOP U.S. STOCK HOLDINGS - Nov 26, 2021     Berkshire's top holdings of disclosed publicly-traded U.S. stocks by market value, based on today's closing prices.   Holdings are as of September 30, 2021 as reported in Berkshire Hathaway's 13F filing on November 15, 2021, except for Apple, Bank of America, and U.S. Bancorp, which also include shares held as of September 30, 2021 as disclosed in New England Asset Management's 13F filing on August 16, 2021.   In addition to U.S. stocks, shares held as of December 31, 2020 of China's BYD, as listed in Buffett's 2020 letter to shareholders, are included. The price of those shares in U.S. trading is used to approximate the current market value of the position.
