Thanksgiving week is often a quiet one for markets, but there is a rush of economic news, Fed minutes and some retail earnings reports to keep investors busy. Even Black Friday, the big shopping day after Thanksgiving, could be interesting as a read on the consumer.
Wednesday is the big day for data, with durable goods, unemployment claims, consumer sentiment, PMI surveys and new home sales. Nordstrom and Best Buy are among the chain stores reporting earnings.
For markets, the debate continues over whether the economy will see the soft landing some economists are expecting or the recession predicted by many others for 2023.
"The bias [for stocks] is higher unless data continues to deteriorate and the Fed stays on its hawkish slant," said one strategist.
