Stocks that could surprise investors and pop like Palantir |
This week, Palantir announced that it broke into profitability, earlier than many had thought. The stock is up now 34% in three sessions. Who might be next: The CNBC data team and a special screen team got together to come up with names that could also surprise investors. Several of them report tomorrow. CNBC's Kristina Partsinevelos will report tomorrow. One of the stocks on our list is Snowflake, down 42% from the 52-week high.

GE, Cisco Systems are on the rise |
GE is now trading at levels not seen since November 2021. GE is up 30% in 2023. Cisco Systems is surging after hours. It was up 8% on this evening's quarterly report but cooled off a bit. The stock is up 25% since October and still 16% from the high. |
Aerospace names soar to highs |
Select industrials jump to fresh highs |
Ingersoll Rand is at a 52-week high. Parker Hannifin an all-time high. Rockwell Automation hit a 52-week high. United Rentals hit an all-time high. Westinghouse Air Brake is trading at a five-year high. The S&P Industrials sector is up 5% in 2023, ranking seventh out of the 11 S&P sectors. Twenty of the 80 stocks in the sector are negative territory in 2023. On the bottom of the list: Northrop Grumman, Emerson Electric, Leidos, General Dynamics, Honeywell, Huntington Ingalls, Deere, 3M, Norfolk Southern, WM, Xylem, Union Pacific, Rollins and Cintas.

Virgin Galactic shares take off |
Virgin Galactic had a successful test launch today. The rocket wasn't the only thing that took off: The stock soared 13%. But don't forget the stock was at about $56 a share in the summer of 2021. The stock is now at $6 a share and is up 72% this year.

Retail's upward trajectory |
Retail sales were up 3% in January, coming in higher than expected. The stocks followed on the upward path. The SPDR S&P Retail ETF (XRT) was up 2.5% today. In the past month, the online retailers and consumer-facing stocks are leading the way in the ETF: ContextLogic is up 45%, while DoorDash is up 30%. Wayfair is up 28.5%. Big brick-and-mortar movers include Nordstrom, up 25.5% in a month. The Children's Place is up 21% in a month, and Kohl's is up 16% in a month.

The auto sector — minus the car makers |
Carvana is up 80% in a month. AutoNation is up 27% in a month. Asbury Automotive up about 24% in a month. Penske Automotive is up 23.6% in a month. Sonic Automotive is up 23% in a month. Group 1 Automotive is up 21.6% in a month.
