One of the most important things about a company is its leader. This person sets the tone for the business as well as the company culture. The old commanding and controlling way of leadership is out. Employees want empathetic and understanding leaders. During the pandemic, working from home gave colleagues a never-before-seen look into each other's personal lives with kids and pets alike crashing virtual meetings. As a result, our professional discourse has become more casual. Going forward, leaders need to recognize the dynamic has changed, likely permanently. Recently, a ZipRecruiter study found women, as well as Black, Asian American and Latinx workers, are more likely to prefer remote work than their white male counterparts. Clearly, flexible work options can improve diversity and inclusion within companies. PwC's Tim Ryan will join us at the CNBC Work Summit on October 26 to discuss the importance of building a diverse and inclusive workforce. Currently, women leaders are leaving at the highest rate ever, but it's not because they don't want to work. A large part of this is due to return-to-office mandates as many working women are also mothers and require flexibility to balance their responsibilities. It's important that women are gaining the corporate experience that prepares them for leadership roles because female leadership helps drive diversity company wide. Ramona Hood, FedEx Custom Critical President and CEO, will talk about her path from assistant to CEO on October 25. Until next time, stay safe, stay healthy and stay in touch. |

Pay, mental health, and burnout are driving Gen Zs and millennials to leave their jobs. Businesses must reimagine work and the talent experience Many Gen Zs and millennials are reassessing what matters most to them as they grapple with the continual disruption and uncertainty of the last few years. "Deloitte's 11th annual Gen Z and Millennial Survey reveals how this has led to a workplace reckoning which has empowered many to demand sustained changes, including higher compensation, more meaningful and flexible work, more action to address climate change, and an increased focus on well-being. There is an urgent need, and an opportunity, for business leaders to re-define the talent experience to better meet people's needs," says Michele Parmelee, Deloitte Global Deputy CEO and Chief People and Purpose Officer. |
