Berkshire B shares: 'Biggest breakout in the whole market' Berkshire Hathaway's Class B shares closed at an all-time high of $300.17 Thursday, and one CNBC Halftime Report trader who's been speaking favorably about the stock this year says that's made him even more bullish.
Speaking on CNBC around three hours before the close, Josh Brown of Ritholtz Wealth Management said, "I can't believe nobody is talking about this. This is the biggest breakout in the whole market. Berkshire Hathaway B shares printed a record high in late May-early June of this year -- spent the rest of the year consolidating. We are about to close -- if we go out here -- at the highest closing price of all time in Berkshire B shares.
"What's in this? Industrials, financials. Two of the best sectors right now. I would be long here." In today's trading, the B shares fell a bit more than 2% from that closing high, ending at $293.66. The S&P dropped just 1%.
The A shares also closed at an all-time high yesterday of $454,550. Today they fell 2.5% to close at $443,304.
With both classes up around 4% over the past month as the S&P fell more than 1%, Berkshire has now overtaken the benchmark stock index in the year-to-date horse race by around four percentage points.
