As of now, there's no clear picture of what's going to happen next.   While we wait for some movement out of President Biden and Republican negotiators, led by West Virginia Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, here's a look at what else is happening: Kochs lean on Manchin: The right-leaning political organization backed by billionaire industrialist Charles Koch has found a key ally in centrist Democrat Joe Manchin. The West Virginia senator has become a thorn in the side of the left. He is against eliminating or reforming the filibuster, which would enable Democrats in the evenly divided Senate pass Biden's agenda without Republican votes. Manchin also opposes a Democratic bill aimed at improving voting rights because it doesn't have bipartisan support. The Koch network, a big backer of Republican political candidates, has similar positions on these matters, and it has applauded Manchin's stances. Bipartisanship does exist, though: Especially when it comes to combating China's growing influence on the global economy. The Senate is expected to pass a sprawling bipartisan bill aimed at curtailing Chinese influence on the tech and manufacturing sectors. It's one of the rare instances where there's enthusiastic support from members of both parties. After it clears the Senate, the House, led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, is projected to pass the bill, too, although it make take a little while longer.  Mon dieu! Here's a strange story out of France. President Emmanuel Macron thought he was greeting supporters during a visit to the Tain-Hermitage school, which specializes in the restaurant industry, just as his government was about to lift restrictions on indoor dining. But a man in the rope line belted the leader in the face after yelling in French, "Down with Macronia!" Police arrested two people in connection with the slap. Macron continued with his visit.
