Armando will update us on the current state of the ETF business, in particular on what is happening in the rapidly-growing ESG space, where iShares have several of the most successful launches in the last couple years.
Also, interest in thematic ETFs is running high. Blackrock launched several new products last week in this space, including:
An interesting wrinkle: these are all actively managed transparent ETFs, meaning the holdings are available for everyone to see. Armando will also update us the state of active management ETFs.
iShares is also launching a new Index-Tracking ETF, iShares Virtual Work and Life ETF (IWFH), which tracks an index of companies that empower people to work remotely.

The SPAC craze continues. The Defiance NextGen SPAC IPO ETF (SPAC) launched this week. How do you buy SPACs (Special Purpose Acquisition Company) when by definition it takes two years for the company to announce what company they will be buying? In Defiance's case, they will allocate 80% of its weighting to companies that have already gone public through SPACs (think DraftKings and Virgin Galactic). The remaining 20% will go toward blank-check companies that are still looking to make an acquisition. Neat trick.
How far can the SPAC craze go? Well, Playboy is back...yes that Playboy. Mountain Crest Acquisition (MCAC) is taking Playboy Enterprises public through a reverse merger. They will take on the Playboy name and change the ticker to PLBY. Purchase price $381 million. Playboy was last public in 2011.
Dimensional Fund Advisors launching ETFs. DFA, a widely respected asset manager, appears to be finally pulling the trigger on three actively managed ETF—and they are setting the prices very low. DFA US Core Equity, DFA Int'l Core Equity, and DFA EM Core Equity are reportedly set to launch with expenses of 0.12%, 0.18%, and 0.35% respectively.
