The Nevada caucuses are tomorrow, and Bernie Sanders is primed for a breakout after two really tight contests in Iowa and New Hampshire.
His closest rival in those states, Pete Buttigieg, could also place second or third in Nevada, according to recent polls, but it appears the self-described democratic socialist from Vermont is about to add to his front-runner status.
Saturday also marks a pivotal contest for Joe Biden and Elizabeth Warren, whose campaigns have lost considerable mojo since the fall. Warren bounced back during Wednesday's debate, when she pounded newcomer Mike Bloomberg into submission. Her fundraising picked up in a big way after she went after the billionaire's past sexist comments and his company's history of handling sexual harassment claims, and she is now open to super PAC support. But now we'll see whether she can translate that fire into some actual heat among voters.
Biden, though, is hanging by a thread. He has lost supporters to Bloomberg. His campaign is hoping for a strong performance in Nevada, which has an ethnic makeup that is much more diverse than Iowa's and New Hampshire's. A solid result in Nevada could give him momentum heading into the South Carolina primary Feb. 29, which he expects to win because he has traditionally polled the best among black voters.
