A NOTE FROM BOB
Non-transparent active ETFs are coming—very soon. Active mutual fund managers are eager to transition to an ETF wrapper, but does anyone really want them? This was the hot topic at the Inside ETF conference in Florida. Edward Rosenberg, head of ETFs at American Century, will be one of our guests on ETF Edge Monday. They may be one of the first funds to launch a nontransparent active ETF. Registered Investment Advisors (RIAs) are independent and big users of ETFs. Many are from large Wall Street firms that have struck out on their own. How much do they make? About $173,000 a year for an investment portfolio manager. That's the median compensation, according to the Schwab RIA Compensation Report. That's up 15% from the prior year. The report compiled 2018 data from nearly 1,000 advisory firms. Interested in how ETFs came to dominate the investing world? I spent some time at the Inside ETF conference with Ralph Lehman, author of "The Elusive Trade: The Story of When, How and Why the ETF was Created." Check out his book. For more analysis and actionable insights, catch me live on Mondays at 1 on ETF Edge. KEY STORIES
